DeLet Master of Arts in Teaching

Inspired by Teach for America, which recruits a diverse group of leaders to teach in public schools, Laura founded DeLeT in 2012 to recruit and train teachers for leadership positions at Jewish Day Schools. DeLeT is both an acronym for Day School Leadership Through Teaching and the Hebrew word for “door.”

The DeLeT program model enabled participants to earn a certificate in Jewish Day School education from Brandeis University in Boston or Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, coupled with a teaching internship at a Jewish Day School. Before sunsetting, nearly 200 students graduated from the DeLeT program.

To harness the ongoing learning and leadership of the DeLeT program, Laura conceived of and launched the DeLeT Alumni Network to provide alumni with continued professional development and leadership opportunities. In 2021, the DeLeT Alumni Network expanded to offer alumni the opportunity to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching at Hebrew Union College.
